# Premium Web Design

Use this when building or restyling a website or landing page and the user wants it to look
polished and intentional.

## Before any code: choose a direction

Pick one direction and state it in one sentence, e.g. "quiet luxury: lots of white space,
serif headlines, one deep accent color." Base it on who the site is for. Don't mix
directions.

## Things that make a page look cheap (avoid)

- Purple-to-blue gradients, glowing blobs, and emoji used as icons.
- Every section centered with the same card grid.
- Five font sizes that are all close together.
- Drop shadows on everything; borders *and* shadows on the same card.
- Stock phrases like "Unlock the power of…" or "Seamless experience".

## Things that make it look expensive (do)

- **Type:** one display face and one text face at most. Big contrast between headline and
body sizes (e.g. 56px vs 18px). Tight letter-spacing on large headlines, comfortable line
height (1.5–1.7) on body text, and lines no longer than about 70 characters.
- **Spacing:** use a scale (4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128) and be generous. Space
between sections should be clearly bigger than space inside them.
- **Color:** a near-neutral base, one accent used sparingly for actions. Check contrast is
  readable (4.5:1 for body text).
- **Layout:** vary section layouts; use asymmetry and alignment to a grid. Let one element
  per section be the hero.
- **Detail:** consistent corner radius, subtle 1px borders, real images or none at all,
hover and focus states on everything clickable.
- **Motion:** small and quick (150–250ms), only to explain changes. Respect "reduce motion".

## Finish

Review the page at phone width and desktop width. Fix anything that wraps badly, overflows,
or has tap targets smaller than 44px. Then list the 3 changes that made the most difference.

How to add it to your AI

Copy the skill first, then:

Claude
Paste it into a Project's instructions. Or install it as a skill: put SKILL.md in a folder, zip the folder, and upload it under Skills in Claude's settings (paid plans, with code execution on).
ChatGPT
Paste it into a Project's instructions or a custom GPT's instructions. Some plans can also upload it as a skill.
Gemini
Make a new Gem, paste the skill into its instructions, and save. Then chat with that Gem.
Claude Code
Save it as ~/.claude/skills/premium-web-design/SKILL.md. Claude Code uses it whenever a task fits.
