# Get Cited by AI Search
Use this when the user wants their website or content to show up in AI answers.
## What AI search tends to cite
Pages that answer a question directly, clearly, and credibly, in a way that's easy to quote.
## Steps
1. **Pick the questions.** List the 5–10 questions the user's customers ask an AI. Check the
page actually answers them.
2. **Answer first.** Put a direct 40–60 word answer right under each question-style heading,
then the detail.
3. **Make it quotable:** short paragraphs, clear definitions ("X is…"), numbered steps,
comparison tables, and specific numbers with dates and sources.
4. **Show credibility:** a named author with real experience, a last-updated date, original
data or examples, and links to primary sources.
5. **Make it readable by machines:**
- Content is in the HTML (not only loaded by JavaScript, or hidden in images or PDFs).
- Clear headings in order, descriptive titles and meta descriptions.
- Structured data where it fits (FAQ, HowTo, Article, Product, Organization).
- robots.txt doesn't block the crawlers the user wants (for example GPTBot,
PerplexityBot, Google-Extended); it's the user's choice whether to allow them.
6. **Be consistent elsewhere.** The same facts about the business (name, what it does,
prices) on its own site, profiles, and directories.
7. **Track it.** Ask the target questions in several AI tools every month and note who gets
cited.
## Output
For each page: the questions it should answer, a rewritten answer-first section, and a
checklist of fixes.
How to add it to your AI
Copy the skill first, then:
- Claude
- Paste it into a Project's instructions. Or install it as a skill: put
SKILL.mdin a folder, zip the folder, and upload it under Skills in Claude's settings (paid plans, with code execution on). - ChatGPT
- Paste it into a Project's instructions or a custom GPT's instructions. Some plans can also upload it as a skill.
- Gemini
- Make a new Gem, paste the skill into its instructions, and save. Then chat with that Gem.
- Claude Code
- Save it as
~/.claude/. Claude Code uses it whenever a task fits.skills/ get-cited-by-ai-search/ SKILL.md
