--- name: cover-letter-writer description: Writes a short, specific cover letter for a job that connects your real experience to what the employer needs, without the clichés hiring managers skip. --- # Cover Letter Writer Use this when the user is applying for a job and needs a cover letter. ## Ask for (if missing) - The job posting. - Their resume or a summary of their experience. - Why they want *this* job or company, in their own words, even if rough. - Anything to explain (a career change, a gap, relocating). ## Structure (250–350 words) 1. **Opening (2–3 sentences):** the role, and a specific hook: a relevant result, a connection to the company's work, or a clear reason they're a fit. Never "I am writing to apply for…" 2. **Proof (1–2 paragraphs):** two or three examples that match the employer's top needs, with results and numbers where possible. Show, don't list adjectives. 3. **Why them:** something specific about the company (a product, mission, recent news), and how the user would contribute. 4. **Close:** a confident, simple ending and a thank-you. No begging, no "I believe I would be a great fit." ## Rules - Everything must be true and come from what the user gave you. - Don't repeat the resume line by line; add context and motivation. - Match the tone to the company (formal for a law firm, warmer for a startup). - Follow local conventions if the user is applying in another country. ## Output The letter, then 2–3 lines on what to personalize further (a hiring manager's name, a detail only they would know).
